Registration for modules of instruction will begin at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester. Each semester lasts for 15 weeks.
FEES & BOOK COSTS:
Fees are due at the time of registration. In addition, certain courses require the purchase of books and other material. Adult education fees are assessed for each individual course offering.
*Payment for tuition and book costs may be made:
- in person with cash, check or credit card

Should there be no interest in another class, tuition will be refunded.
*Full refunds are given if the course is cancelled or the student notifies the Adult Education office of their intent to drop the class one week prior to the first class meeting. Refunds are not provided after the first class meeting.
SCHOOL CLOSING POLICIES/SNOW DAYS:
CATEC adult programs will be canceled independent of County or City schools. The announcements will be made on the radio and television and will state "Evening Classes at CATEC will not be held". Apprenticeship Program
The purpose of this page is to provide an overview of the Apprenticeship Program at Charlottesville/Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC).
WHAT IS APPRENTICESHIP?
Apprenticeship is a voluntary system of on-the-job training (OJT) and related classroom training. All parties involved must cooperate in setting up an Apprenticeship in order for an individual to become registered. The first requirement is to be employed full-time in the trade or craft of interest. The employer must also be willing to serve as an Apprenticeship sponsor. The Apprenticeship field representative with the Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI), the registering agency, will visit the work-site and complete the necessary documents for registration. The related instruction coordinator will then be contacted by the field representative to list the individual as a registered apprentice.
APPRENTICESHIP MANAGEMENT:
CATEC, located in Charlottesville, Virginia and is one of sixteen (16) Apprenticeship regional related instruction centers throughout the state of Virginia. The centers are charged and contracted by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) with the responsibility for providing the Apprenticeship related instruction (ARI) portion of Apprenticeship training under the State Apprenticeship Act. The State Apprenticeship Council establishes policies governing the state Apprenticeship Program. ARI at CATEC is coordinated by an Apprenticeship coordinator. Oversight of the program is provided by the Regional Apprenticeship Advisory Committee. The committee reports quarterly to the VCCS relative to the progress and activities of the Apprenticeship Program at CATEC. CATEC also receives support and recommendations from craft advisory committees regarding the currency and relevance of curriculum and instructional material for specific trades. CATEC serves the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange and Culpeper.
Adult Education students may take Apprenticeship related instruction courses for the appropriate fees shown in the course catalog. Any course taken in this manner may be counted toward the ARI requirement should an individual decide to become an apprentice.
